Last Few Years

The world never got to me before,
What will be will be, I always thought.
I didn’t hold fear, I didn’t shed tears.
But that’s all changed over the last few years.

I grew up under the shadow of a mushroom cloud,
But leaders then somehow.
Seemed safe, MAD keeping them sane.
I wish I could say today’s the same.

Somehow egotistical machoismo trumps politique.
Actions brought about by minds so weak.
Where dialogue and compromise,
Somehow weakens what’s between their thighs.

Not since the thirties has their kind been seen.
Hitler, Franco, Mussolini.
I pray the world wakes, their people see.
Their kind aren’t kind, they won’t ever bring peace.

The world never got to me before,
What will be will be, I always thought.
I didn’t hold fear, I didn’t shed tears.
But that’s all changed over the last few years.
